Goodbye XFL 2.0

All XFL doubters rejoice! It has finally come to a permanent end. You got your wish... But for the XFL supporters, we have to say goodbye to what could have been a legitimate lasting spring football league. Today ESPN reported, "XFL suspends operations, lays off employees and has no plans for 2021 season". This comes a month after the XFL said "The 2021 season and seasons beyond are happening. No question whatsoever. We will return. We will play in 2021. No doubt about that". That apparently isn't the case anymore.
THANK YOU XFL - @gsampsonsports
There are some people still holding on to hope though. Some think this is a move to save capital and it is more of a "wait and see" situation. For a start-up league this is obviously such a blow to the gut. Every single league and even businesses of all forms are struggling. No one saw this coming and the XFL, like many, just got caught in the crossfire. As much as I would love this to be a "wait and see" situation with the league starting back up next year, I honestly think this is the end of the XFL. For good.
Mixed feelings right now because the XFL was great. The XFL should not be saying goodbye. The towel should not be thrown in. This virus should not kill something that was beautiful in its setup and execution. The league should go on. There is too much value in it. - @2020_Hindsight_
When the news broke, reading through the comments on multiple posts and tweets I was honestly surprised. There were about 3 to 4 times more comments that were upset, disappointed and showed support for the league then there were comments of nonsense. I was expecting it to be the opposite, and that just goes to show that there was a really great fan base for this league. We all loved it, tuned in, and supported it every single week. I personally got back to writing about sports after a 6-year absence. The XFL brought my passion for writing back. It made me remember why I used to love it so much. I watched every game from the first snap to the last. I engaged with the community, bought merch, put together Power Rankings, wrote articles and loved every minute of it.
Sad to know you had to go. F#@% coronavirus! - @catdadforever
The XFL was innovative in every way that mattered. From the review booth coverage to the comeback period (in the last 2 minutes), to the most popular kickoff set up and rules. I fully expect the NFL to implement these into the league asap. If for some reason they don't, I am sure the fanbase will let them know how stupid that decision would be. I loved everything about the XFL. The rules were so fun and it made for a faster and more entertaining game.
I will hold on to a sliver of hope that the light will soon be at the end of this dark, dark tunnel. The day sports will be allowed to continue and the world will go back to as close as normal as possible. Maybe, just maybe, the XFL will find a way to play next season still. Hopefully, this time will pass and we will all look back on this time as just a very bad nightmare. But as of right now, this is real. This is the reality we live in and it will be for the foreseeable future. Stay safe out there everyone. Be well.
